Speakers
LIKE is hugely grateful to our brilliant speakers for giving their time and sharing their knowledge by speaking at our events.
Notes for speakers
- LIKE events start at 6 for 6.30. Our speaker will be introduced at 6.30 by the Chair for the evening, and dinner is served at 7.30.
- Speakers should be prepared to present a session lasting around 45 minutes. Talking for about 15 minutes followed by questions and answers, cafe-style discussions, debates, group exercises, or encouraging group discussion, normally works well.
- Due to the logistical challenges of organising a group of 40 people in a limited space, we recommend speakers only attempt one group exercise per session.
- Speakers must finish at 7.25 to enable food to be served on time.
- LIKE is a relaxed and informal event. Talks should aim to be entertaining and educational rather than overly dry and scholarly.
- LIKE events are attended by knowledge managers, information professionals, librarians, and those with a professional interest in issues dealt with by these professions. As such it is better to pitch any talk at a general level than assume too much specialist knowledge in any particular issue.
- LIKE is unable to pay speakers but does provide dinner and a steady supply of drinks throughout the evening for speakers.
- Speakers are asked to provide a short biography and summary of their talk at least six weeks before the date they are due to speak.
- There are no facilities for projectors and powerpoint/keynote presentations.
- Speakers need to be prepared to project their voice to a room of 40 without using a microphone.
