The UK Intellectual Property system is getting an overhaul. To up date us on the changes, and how they'll affect you, we're delighted to be joined by information law expert, Charles Oppenheim. Charles will be taking us through the fallout of last year's Hargreaves Review of Intellectual Property and Growth, which looked at how the UK's IP framework supported, or indeed hindered, economic growth and innovation. We'll be discussing the 10 recommendations of the Hargreaves Review and how they'll impact upon the work of the Information Professions.
We'll compare Hargreaves' recommendations with the UK's most recent legislation on copyright - the controversial Digital Economy Act 2010. We'll be asking what can be learnt from the horror stories of the DEA, to finally establish an IP framework that is fit for the digital age.
About Charles
Charles Oppenheim is a well-known consultant and speaker on legal aspects of information work. Following a successful career as an information scientist, he worked as a well-respected researcher and lecturer, culminating as Head of the Department of Information Science at Loughbourgh University until his retirement in 2009. He is currently a Visiting Professor at University of Queensland.
